Transfiguration (Bust)

Artwork Description

TRANSFIGURATION (BUST), 2017
Bronze on Granite base
Edition of 8
590 x 310 x 400 mm

A bronze head, neck and shoulders are suspended in regal pose.

Facial features evoke ambiguity of gender and race. The head is partially abstracted into fragments, hinting at decay and the effects of time. The organic face and fragmented parts are contrasted by a single beam of wood that anchors the back of the neck and head.

A fragment of the life-size Transfiguration, that recalls the duality within the Adamastor myth, the Cape of Storms contrasted by the Cape of Good Hope, Transfiguration Bust, emphasizes the identity of personas involved.
